Many varieties of Indian cuisines and cooking styles were highlighted on a virtual platform before the stakeholders of the tourism industry with focus on locally grown foodgrains and vegetables at a webinar recently.
Titled “Secrets and Delights of Indian Cuisine”, the Ministry of Tourism’s Dekho Apna Desh webinar has showcased Indian cuisine and its importance for the participants.
Food in India is a vibrant assortment of uncountable dishes, cooking styles and it is distinctly characterised by the subtle and sophisticated use of spices, grains, vegetables and fruits that are locally available.
Indian food is balanced as it satiates the taste buds with all sorts of flavours in it such as salty, sweet, bitter or spicy with a combination of one or more foodgrains, vegetables, spices etc.
Presented by Aruna Sharma, a retired IAS officer, the event mainly emphasised on the importance of locally grown foodgrains, vegetables, the role and importance of spices and its role in building immunity.
Indian food is based on a holistic approach to nutrition and the food culture in India is very vibrant — with various options such as home cooked, street food to fine-dine.
Summing up the webinar, Rupinder Brar, Additional Director-General spoke about the different types of cuisines, food trails available across the country.
She also mentioned about the Incredible India Tourist Facilitator (IITF) Certification, a digital initiative by the Ministry of Tourism for the citizens of India so they can become part of the tourism industry.
The Dekho Apna Desh series highlights the beautifully diverse culture of the country and espouses the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
