The Indian Ocean is now set for for “disruptive” changes and it is essential for India to be prepared for it, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated amid China’s spiking maritime activities into the region.

While addressing an seminar at a think-tank, Jaishankar, without naming any country, said that the competition that is evident around India’s neighbourhood will surely happen in the Indian Ocean too, as per a report by The Indian Express.

“I think the Indian Ocean is already seeing the beginnings of maritime presence which was not there before. So it is poised for a disruptive change. I think we need to anticipate it (and) we need to prepare for it,” he said.

China has been slowly maximising its visibility in the Indian Ocean that is generally viewed as the domain of the Indian Navy.
