India To Launch 50 Spy Satellites In Next Five Years For Enhanced Geo-Intelligence: ISRO

In a significant move towards bolstering India's geo-intelligence capabilities, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has outlined plans to launch 50 satellites over the next five years.

The initiative aims to establish a diverse constellation of satellites in various orbits, enhancing the country's capacity for troop movement tracking and extensive area imaging.

ISRO Chairman S Somanath revealed these ambitious plans during his address at 'Techfest,' an annual event organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Referring to these satellites as "spy-sats" in defense intelligence gathering, Somanath stressed the importance of improving satellite capabilities to detect changes.

The plan involves deploying satellites across different orbits, from geostationary equatorial orbit (GEO) to lower earth orbit (LEO) and very low earth orbit (VLEO).

This multi-orbit strategy aims to provide a comprehensive view of activities, allowing for detailed assessments in critical situations.
