Responding to a distress call reporting a hijacking attempt on a Liberian-flagged vessel in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy has swiftly diverted INS Chennai and deployed a maritime patrol aircraft to assess the situation.
As reported by The Hindu, the aircraft overflew the vessel, establishing contact and confirming the safety of the crew.
The vessel had earlier signaled a hijacking attempt by approximately five to six armed individuals.
In an official statement, the Indian Navy outlined the prompt response, stating that INS Chennai is approaching the vessel to provide necessary assistance.
This marks the second hijacking incident in the region, signaling a resurgence in maritime security concerns.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has heightened surveillance efforts in the Central and North Arabian Sea, deploying task groups comprising destroyers and frigates for maritime security operations.
Aerial surveillance using long-range patrol aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles has also been intensified to ensure comprehensive maritime domain awareness.
As incidents of piracy and attacks in the region persist, the Indian Navy remains vigilant.
