The latest data from the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) reveals a positive trend in urban unemployment rates for individuals aged 15 years and above in India.

According to the 20th Periodic Labour Force Survey, the unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 per cent in the September quarter, marking a decline from 7.2 per cent in the same period the previous year, as reported by Indian Express.

This decline is seen as a significant improvement, especially considering the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and related restrictions, which had contributed to elevated joblessness levels in the July-September period.

The report further indicates a positive shift in unemployment rates among both genders.

Among males, the unemployment rate in urban areas decreased to 6 per cent from 6.6 per cent, in the same period.

It is noteworthy that these figures provide a snapshot of the labor market, offering insights into unemployment rates, Labour Force Participation Rate, and Worker Population Ratio.

The quarterly bulletin by NSSO aims to capture the dynamics of the labor force, helping policymakers and stakeholders make informed decisions.

The data serves as a valuable resource for understanding and addressing challenges in the evolving employment landscape.
