A plane burst into flames on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Tuesday (2 January), with media reports saying it hit another aircraft after landing.
NHK TV reported that all passengers aboard, believed to have been about 400 people, were taken out safely.
Broadcast footage from NHK depicted the aircraft swiftly traversing the runway, followed by a sudden eruption of orange flames from underneath it.
The television footage showed flames coming out windows and the plane's nose on the ground as rescue workers were trying to douse the fire.
Japan Airlines says the airplane is Flight 516 from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido to Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
Haneda is one of the busiest airports in Japan, and many people travel over the New Year holidays.
