Champai Soren
In a decisive outcome, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress coalition government, led by Champai Soren, emerged triumphant in the trust vote held in the Jharkhand assembly, as per a report by Hindustan Times.
The ruling alliance secured a total of 47 votes, including the support of a nominated member, out of the 81-member house.
The opposition National Democratic Alliance received 29 votes.
The necessity for the floor test arose following the recent swearing-in of the new government under Champai Soren, just months ahead of the Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
Succeeding Hemant Soren, who resigned due to his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering land scam case, the JMM executive president was present in the house during the floor test proceedings, having received permission to attend.
He stated, "On the night of January 31, for the first time in the country, a CM was arrested...and I believe that Raj Bhavan was also involved in this incident."
Hemant Soren, currently in the custody of the ED, used his speech to express concerns about the safety of tribals and Dalits under the present regime.
In the ongoing investigation into the money laundering case, Champai Soren accused the BJP of employing central agencies to frame his predecessor, emphasising, "BJP tried to destabilise a democratically elected Jharkhand government".
Reacting to the trust vote win, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh affirmed, "There was no doubt. We were saying beforehand that we would win this Trust Vote with a good majority. 47 MLAs were in support. 'Operation Keechad' has failed."
