Stepping up the ambitious station redevelopment programme, Indian Railways has invited bids for redevelopment of Kanpur Central Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh and Ludhiana Junction in Punjab on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.

The North Central Railway (NCR) has floated the tenders for redevelopment of Kanpur station at an estimated cost of Rs 681 crore. A three-year deadline until July 2025 has been set to complete this state-of-the-art, modern terminus in Kanpur.

Kanpur Central is one of the five "Central" railway stations in India. It is the busiest railway station in India in terms of frequency of trains.

It is a major intercity rail and commuter rail station in the city of Kanpur, and is situated on the Howrah-Delhi broad gauge route passing through Uttar Pradesh.

The tenders for the redevelopment of Ludhiana Junction have been floated by the Construction Department of the Northern Railway. Ludhiana is an industrial town under Firozpur Division of Northern Railway Zone (NR) of Indian Railways.

The railways have also floated bids for selection of consultancy firm for preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for redevelopment of Gorakhpur Railway Station.

Gorakhpur Railway serves as the headquarters of the North Eastern Railway and connects eastern Uttar Pradesh, called Purvanchal, to Bihar and Nepal. It has the world's longest railway platform.
