Karnataka Tourism Minister C T Ravi.
Karnataka’s Minsiter for Tourism, Culture and Kannada C T Ravi on Sunday (4 October) resigned from the cabinet days after being inducted into the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP)’s national body.
BJP chief J P Nadda had recently announced the new list of office bearers of the party in which Ravi had been handed the post of the National General Secretary.
In keeping with the party’s one person one post policy, Ravi is said to have given his letter of resignation to Chief Minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa.
He is said to be in Delhi today to attend the party organisational meet today, although his resignation is yet to be accepted by Yediyurappa. “The National office bearers meet will be held in Delhi on Monday (today) after which the responsibilities may be distributed. Not everything rests on us. Certain things depend on the system, and one is required to work as per the system,” said Ravi.
He added that his resignation was owing to the need to devote more time to organisational responsibilities now that he had been inducted into the party’s national office body.
Political rumour mills have been rife with the possibility of Ravi being offered the Lok Sabha seat next elections from his home constituency Chikamagalur and this displacement from the state cabinet as the precursor to catapult Ravi into the national political scenario.
