In a major development, Apple is set to start assembling its iPhone 16 Pro models in India, which will be the first instance of the tech giant producing its Pro series iPhones outside of China.

This marks a substantial change in Apple’s global production strategy and is expected to broaden the company’s presence in the Indian market.

According to a report from GSM Arena, Foxconn India is slated to begin production of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max at its Indian facilities soon after their global release.

This move highlights Apple’s continuous efforts to diversify its manufacturing base beyond its long-established operations in China.

Over the past seven years, Apple has been assembling different models of its iPhone lineup in India.

As of earlier this year, India contributed around 14 per cent of Apple’s total iPhone production, a number expected to grow to 25 per cent by next year, signifying the rising significance of the Indian market in Apple’s global supply chain.

Moreover, GSM Arena reported that Apple might begin production of the iPhone 17 solely in India.

This strategic decision aligns with broader industry trends and geopolitical dynamics, as companies strive to reduce the risks of depending too heavily on a single country for manufacturing.

With plans to increase production in India, Apple seeks to strengthen its supply chain resilience while capitalising on the burgeoning market potential in the country.

Expanding iPhone production in India is expected to benefit not only Apple but also the local economy by generating jobs and fostering greater technological investments.
