Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has stepped in to address ongoing issues in the Nashik Lok Sabha constituency, as per a report by Hindustan Times.
Internal discord within the Shiv Sena and disagreements with alliance partners like the Ajit Pawar-led NCP have affected the election campaign of incumbent MP Hemant Godse.
The Nashik Lok Sabha seat has been a contentious issue within the Mahayuti alliance, with the BJP initially opposing Godse's candidature and considering giving the seat to the NCP.
During his visit, the chief minister held a meeting with local party leaders to resolve the issues and realign the campaign.
To prevent further damage to the party's electoral prospects, Godse met with NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal, at Shinde's request, to seek support for his campaign.
Shiv Sena (UBT) has nominated Rajabhau Waje as its candidate from Nashik.
Shiv Sena district chief Ajay Boraste, who had aspirations for the Nashik constituency, expressed dissatisfaction with Godse's renomination. His supporters distanced themselves from the campaign, and both the BJP and the NCP have remained aloof as Godse began his campaign.
With only 12 days left for campaigning, Godse sought Shinde's intervention, leading to the chief minister's visit to Nashik on Wednesday to address the issues.
During his visit, Shinde also persuaded a Shiv Sena (UBT) rebel, Vijay Karanjkar to withdraw from the election, as his candidacy would have divided the votes.
Shinde praised Karanjkar and Boraste, stating, "Now Vijay Karanjkar, along with his supporters, has joined us and strengthened our party. Ajay Boraste and Karanjkar have the capacity to ensure the victory of MP Godse."
