JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reportedly issued a show-cause notice to suspended JDS MP Prajwal Revanna, questioning why his diplomatic passport should not be cancelled due to allegations of sexual abuse against him.
The MEA is awaiting Revanna's response before deciding on further action, Economic Times reported citing sources.
The notice, served via email, is part of the process to cancel Revanna's passport under the Passports Act of 1967.
Revanna, the MP from Hassan in Karnataka, left India on 27 April, a day after voting for the Lok Sabha elections in his constituency.
If his passport is cancelled, his stay abroad will become illegal, potentially leading to legal action in his host country.
Earlier this month, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that Revanna travelled to Germany on a diplomatic passport without seeking political clearance for the trip.
This comes as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking Revanna's passport cancellation.
Meanwhile, Revanna, who is the grandson of former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) chief H D Deve Gowda, has been issued a stern warning by the JDS patriarch, urging him to return to India and surrender to the police.
In an open letter titled “My Warning To Prajwal Revanna,” Gowda expressed his unawareness of his grandson's alleged activities and called for him to face the legal process.
Gowda emphasised that Revanna should face the harshest punishment if the accusations are proven true.
“I can only issue a stern warning to Prajwal to return from wherever he is and surrender to the police. He should subject himself to the legal process. This is not an appeal, it is a warning," Deve Gowda further warned Prajwal.
Gowda also told Prajwal that ignoring the family’s advice would lead to total isolation and also stressed that he will not try to influence the investigation in any manner.
