Since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not been able to find a new national president, Union Cabinet Minister J P Nadda is likely to get another extension of three to six months, as per party sources.

The aim is to have continued leadership until the upcoming Assembly elections of Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.

As per a BJP leader quoted by The New Indian Express, the party leadership seeks to maintain stability and cohesion under Nadda’s guidance.

Another reason cited by the leader for Nadda's continuation is that BJP’s ongoing organisational elections across various states remain incomplete.

His term actually ended in January 2024, but he was given an extension until 30 June for the Lok Sabha elections. However, the BJP could not secure a majority on its own in these elections.

Although, the BJP is happy with its victories in previously unconquered areas like southern states and Odisha. The election of a new president is also delayed due to a complex process.

"The appointment of the BJP national president involves a meticulous electoral process across every state unit, which is currently underway," a BJP leader was quoted as saying by TNIE.

The party may even explore appointing a woman leader from either the OBC or Dalit community while Nadda continues to work as national president for some time, the leader said.
