Home Minister Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday (20 December) introduced bills to replace the existing criminal laws for consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha.
Speaking on the three bills, Shah said that for the first time, under the leadership of PM Modi, the colonial-era Criminal Justice System is going to be changed for Indians.
Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought about the proposed three crime bills in a bid to extinguish colonial laws from the justice system.
"Criminal Procedure Code, 1898 will be replaced by 'Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023'. The Indian Evidence Act, 1872 will be replaced by 'Bharatiya Sakshya Vidheyak, 2023'," he added.
The Home Minister further said that the erstwhile laws were made by foreign rulers to help them maintain their supremacy.
"The new laws are framed by keeping in mind the core values of our Constitution- Individual freedom, human rights, and equal treatment for all," he said.
