The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a new date for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Postgraduate (NEET PG).
The exam, which was cancelled nearly 13 days ago, will now be held on 11 August 2024. The exam will be conducted in two shifts, Indian Express reported.
NBEMS postponed the exam scheduled for 23 June as a precautionary measure amid allegations of irregularities in the undergraduate medical entrance exam NEET-PG.
The government had then said it would "undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of NEET-PG, conducted by the National Board of Examinations for medical students".
The cancellation of the exam, which saw the enrolment of thousands of aspiring medical professionals, led to widespread protests, particularly from those who had travelled long distances to take the test.
NBE Chief Abhijat Sheth stated that the Ministry wanted to prevent miscreants from taking undue advantage of the NEET PG applicants, especially in light of recent NTA exam cancellations that had caused concern among students.
NEET PG 2024 was initially scheduled for 3 March, then postponed to 7 July, and later advanced to 23 June due to general elections.
Despite these changes, the cut-off date for eligibility to appear in the exam remains 15 August 2024.
Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced the “Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023,” mandating that all rounds of NEET PG counselling for every seat will be conducted online by state or central counselling authorities.
