As the alliance of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Congress is set to form government in the Union Territory, Omar Abdullah is expected to be the next Chief Minister.

Former J&K CM and the JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah announced that Omar Abdullah would become the CM as his party is set to win 41 seats and his ally Congress is set to win six seats.

Omar Abdullah earlier served as the CM of J&K for six years from 2009 to 2015. In this election, he has won from Budgam and Ganderbal.

This is believed to be a bounce back after his loss to Engineer Rashid in Baramulla in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Notably, he was not expected to contest the assembly election earlier.
