PM Modi Reviews Jammu-Kashmir Security As Encounters Surge, Directs Full Counter-Terror Deployment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired a review meeting to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following a series of encounters between security forces and terrorists over the past four days.

During the meeting, he spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. He further received a comprehensive briefing on the security situation and ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Union Territory.

According to a report from NDTV, Prime Minister Modi has directed the authorities to fully utilise the armed forces' counter-terrorism capabilities.

Additionally, he spoke with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to get updates on the local administration's efforts.

A new encounter erupted in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district yesterday, resulting in a soldier being injured.

An encounter also occurred in the Kathua region, south of Doda, the day before yesterday. A senior police officer reported that a group of three to four terrorists were present in the higher reaches of Doda, and a search operation is ongoing to neutralise them despite the challenging terrain.

In the upper reaches of Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road in Doda, five soldiers from the Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer were injured on Tuesday night when terrorists attacked a joint checkpost. Reinforcements have been sent to the area to strengthen the cordon.

This incident is the second terror-related event in Doda within 24 hours and the fourth in Jammu and Kashmir within three days.

In another incident on the same night, security forces killed a suspected Pakistani terrorist in Kathua district. The overnight encounter concluded with the death of a second terrorist on Wednesday, during which a CRPF soldier was also killed in action.
