On the eve of the 78th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu has addressed the nation. The speech was broadcast on Akashvani and Doordarshan, first in Hindi, followed by English, with regional language versions airing later in the evening.

The President's address began with the following warm words, "I extend to you all my heartiest Independence Day greetings. I am delighted to see the nation prepare to celebrate the 78th Independence Day. Witnessing the Tiranga unfurl on this occasion, be it at the Red Fort, at state capitals or in local neighbourhoods, always thrills our hearts."

Here are the important highlights from President's national address -

1. News Criminal Law Codes

The Honourable President eloquently hailed the introduction of new criminal law codes.

Draupadi Murmu stated, "...speaking of justice, let me also mention here that in adopting the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita from July this year, we have removed one more relic of the colonial era. The new code is oriented towards ensuring justice for the victims of crime instead of focusing on punishment alone."

2.  New Era Of Economic Reforms

President Murmu also said that the groundwork has been laid for a new era of economic reforms aimed at elevating India to the status of a developed nation.

The President also mentioned about India's impressive economic trajectory and said the nation has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy, with an average annual GDP growth rate of 8 per cent between 2021 and 2024.

She stated, "It is a matter of pride that India has become the fifth-largest economy in the world, and we are on the cusp of breaking into the top three economies soon."


President Droupadi Murmu stated that nurturing young minds and fostering a new mindset that blends the best of traditions with modern knowledge has now become a top priority for the nation, and the new National Education Policy (NEP) has already begun to show positive results in this direction.

Murmu remarked, "It is their energy and enthusiasm that will help the nation scale new heights. Cultivating the young minds and creating a new mindset that takes the best of the traditions and the contemporary knowledge is our priority. To this end, the National Education Policy, launched in 2020, has already started showing results."

4. Rapid and Sustained Infrastructural Development

President also highlighted that infrastructural development in India has received a big boost in the recent years.

The President stated, "Well thought out plans and effective implementation have helped in creating a net of roads, highways, railway and ports. Considering the amazing potential of future technology, the government has emphasised on boosting sectors such as semiconductors and AI."

5. Remembering the horrors of the partition

The President Murmu also acknowledged the solemn importance of today's Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

Murmu remarked that today is a day to remember the horrors of the partition. When our great nation was divided, millions were forced to flee, and countless lives were lost.

She further stated that on the eve of Independence Day, we as a nation should recall this unprecedented humanitarian tragedy and stand united with the families that were torn apart.
