Renowned Philanthropist Sudha Murthy Nominated To Rajya Sabha, PM Modi Lauds 'Nari Shakti'

Renowned philanthropist and chairperson of the Murty Trust, Sudha Murthy, has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Applauding her multifaceted contributions, Prime Minister Modi hailed Sudha Murthy as a powerful symbol of 'Nari Shakti' or women empowerment.

In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi said: "I am delighted that the President of India has nominated Sudha Murty Ji to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji's contributions to diverse fields including social work, philanthropy and education have been immense and inspiring."

"Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our 'Nari Shakti,' exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation's destiny. Wishing her a fruitful Parliamentary tenure," he added.


Earlier, she had received the Padma Shri award in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2023.

Sudha Murthy is also known for her novel — ‘Dollar Bahu’ — which was originally authored by her in Kannada and later translated into English.

The novel was also televised into a dramatic series by Zee TV in 2001. She also wrote a story ‘Runa’ which was adapted as a Marathi film.
