News Brief
Railway signalling system.
The Railway Board has asked all 19 zones to kick-start safety drive with emphasis on signalling system and submit report of all deficiencies and irregularities by 14 June.
The move assumes significance as signal failure is believed to be the cause of Balasore train tragedy, which has claimed many lives, and left scores of passengers injured.
Termed as "Super Check" of signalling systems, the instruction issued by the Railway Safety Directorate has details of measures to be undertaken in the entire rail network in the country.
Meanwhile, the railways has almost completed the restoration exercise at the accident site and made both up and down line operational. One line was operational yesterday and today (5 June) another line was also made functional paving the way for regular train movement in the section.
According to the letter issued by safety executive director Tej Prakash Agrawal, the deficiencies and irregularities in the signalling systems need to be fixed on priority.
