In a press briefing giving details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States (US), Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also commented on the issue of summons in Gurpatwant Singh Pannun's alleged assassination plot.
A US court has issued the summons in the name of the Government of India, along with high-ranking Indian officials such as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, former R&AW chief Samant Goel, R&AW agent Vikram Yadav, and businessman Nikhil Gupta.
Responding to this, Misri said certain actions were taken when the issue was first brought to India's attention and the allegations are being inquired into by a high-level committee and relevant authorities of both sides are engaged on the issue.
Referring to the founder of the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and Khalistani terrorist Pannun, Misri said, "The antecedents of the person behind this case are well-known," as the former has made many anti-India statements.
Referring to his organisation SFJ, the Foreign Secretary said, "It's an unlawful organisation, declared as such under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 because of its involvement in anti-national and subversive activities."
He mentioned that the SFJ has an objective of disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. He said that nothing more needs to be said for the time.
