A video of Tamil Nadu Congress leader EVKS Elangovan demanding to be served beef in state BJP office has gone viral drawing outrage over social media.

Earlier Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai had demanded on Wednesday (22 May) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah issue an unconditional apology to the people of Tamil Nadu within a week for their disparaging remarks about Tamils during their election campaign in Odisha.

He warned that if they fail to do so, Congress cadres would stage a protest at the BJP headquarters in Chennai.

The present remarks of Congress leader in question came in response to this invitation by Annamalai. He stated, "If we come to BJP office, we will require non-veg food, we like beef so we will require non veg food and beef to eat. We are giving them two days time."

During an election campaign in Odisha, Modi had alleged that the keys to Ratna Bhandar, the inner chamber of the Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, had been taken to Tamil Nadu.

Amit Shah, in his campaign, said, “As Naveen Babu is unable to work, a Tamil Babu is running the state government. Can a Tamil Babu run Odisha? I assure you, if you elect a BJP government, a young son of the soil who speaks Odia will be the chief minister. A ‘Bhumiputra’ will rule the land of ‘Utkala Bhumi’ and not a Tamil Babu.”
