Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has decided to join forces with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by MK Stalin, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The announcement came during a meeting at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, where Haasan and DMK Chief Minister MK Stalin finalised the agreement.
Haasan emphasised that MNM's decision to ally with the DMK-led coalition was driven by a commitment to national interest rather than any personal considerations.
“Joined the DMK-led alliance for the sake of the country, not with any consideration for the post,” MNM founder Kamal Haasan said.
Under the agreement, MNM has been allocated one seat for the 2025 Rajya Sabha elections and pledged full support to the alliance.
Also, MNM has committed to actively contributing to campaign efforts across the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry segment.
Earlier, Haasan had publicly defended Udhayanidhi Stalin amidst Sanatana Dharma controversies and was seen accompanying Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, negotiations between the DMK and Congress are ongoing for finalizing their seat-sharing agreement ahead of the elections.
In the 2019 general elections, the DMK and Congress secured a resounding victory by clinching 38 out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, with the Congress winning eight out of the nine contested seats.
