A terrorist was neutralised while an Army soldier was injured in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara on Wednesday (24 July).
The Indian Army and the J&K police on Tuesday (23 July) launched a joint operation based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in Kupwara's Kowut area.
"On 24 July, suspicious movement was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO injured. Operation is in progress," the Indian Army said in a statement.
This is the latest in a string of terrorist attacks in the region.
Earlier on Tuesday (23 July), Lance Naik Subash Chander was killed in an intense gunfight with terrorists as the troops foiled an infiltration attempt at LoC in J&K.
Earlier on Monday (22 July) morning, a soldier and a civilian were injured when security forces thwarted twin terror attacks targeting an Army post and the residence of a Village Defence Group (VDG) member in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the officials, the area was cordoned off by a joint team of the Army, police, CRPF and VDGs following intermittent exchanges of fire with terrorists throughout the day.
The Army camp was reportedly attacked by three Pakistani terrorists.
The camp was located near the house of a VDG member who recently received the Shaurya Chakra for his anti-terror efforts in the same area in 2023.
At around 4 am, the terrorists attacked a newly established Army post, sparking another exchange of fire.
Both the injured soldier and the civilian were taken to the hospital.
A terrorist was reportedly killed, though the body has not yet been recovered.
Earlier on 19 July, security forces had foiled an infiltration attempt at the Line of Control in the Keran sector, killing two terrorists.
In a separate encounter in the Kastigarh area of Doda district, two soldiers were injured.
Monday's attack in Rajouri marked the 14th terror incident in the Jammu region.
These attacks have resulted in the deaths of 10 security personnel and nine pilgrims, with 58 others injured.
Security forces neutralised five terrorists in these encounters.
