Amulya Leona Noronha, the student arrested on charges of sedition, has revealed details regarding her expenses during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests to the police according to a report.
According to this report, she has told police that her expenses, ever since the anti-CAA began in December last year, were borne by organisers conducting the protests.
She was arrested earlier this month for raising pro-Pakistan slogans during a speech. She was sent to judicial custody on the day she was arrested. On 25 February, she was taken into custody by the police for questioning.
The report quotes police saying that Amulya has said that a major part of her speeches were prepared by the organisers, she would add a few lines, however, raising pro-Pakistan slogans was her idea.
The report quotes the police as saying that Amulya flew to Mangaluru to participate in the protests there and the tickets for the journey were booked by the organisers and that "different organisers sponsored her tour across the state."
The money spent by her would be reimbursed, according to Amulya, the police has been quoted saying. The article says that the police stopped short of providing a break up of her expenses.
Leona, a Bachelor of Arts student, had raised the slogan at a rally opposing the Modi government's citizenship policies. Asaduddin Owaisi was also on stage.
Amulya’s father has expressed shock over his daughter’s actions.
“Let my daughter rot in jail. Let the police break her legs. I have no objection. She has caused so much misery to my family,” he has been quoted as saying.
According to this report, as part of the investigation, "the police took Amulya to a paying guest accommodation in Basaveshwara Nagar, where she was staying." The police "reportedly seized some articles from her room."
