Governor R N Ravi and Chief Minister M K Stalin.
Chief Minister MK Stalin in a statement released today (14 August) said that he and his party would boycott the tea party to be hosted by Governor RN Ravi at the Raj Bhavan on the occasion of Independence Day due to his recent remarks stating that if it were up to him, he would not give assent to the Bill passed by the state assembly to exempt the state from NEET.
Referring to a recent incident from Chromepet in which a father took his own life after his son committed suicide due to failure in NEET, he said that our forefathers had fought for the freedom of all but exams like NEET had made freedom the privilege of only a few.
He said that the moral questions raised by their deaths had shaken his conscience.
Further, he said that he was writing a letter to the President requesting her to give assent to the Bill. Governor Ravi referred the Bill to the President in May 2022.
Encouraging students to do well, he said that he wanted Tamil Nadu's students to compete, be the best and not be 'intellectually disabled.' He advised those who cleared the exam to speak to students in their schools and inspire them.
