Among several decisions approved by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Cabinet on Tuesday (25 June), one gives certain employees a one-time option to choose the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

The option is available to those employees, whose recruitment advertisements were published before the notification of the National Pension Scheme (NPS).

This means that those employees, who were recruited after 1 April 2005, but the recruitment advertisement was published before 28 March 2005, when the NPS was notified, will get this option.

A similar order was passed by the Centre on 3 March 2023 saying that any employee appointed after 1 January 2004, whose vacancy was advertised before 22 December 2003, will get a one-time option to switch to OPS.

The decision comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a setback in UP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and the dissatisfaction of government employees was said to be one of the reasons.

Among other approvals of the UP cabinet, were a decision to bring ordinance against paper leaks and approval to a museum of temples in Ayodhya.
