BSP Supremo Mayawati.
Soon after releasing its first list of 16 candidates, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) declared nine more Uttar Pradesh candidates in its second list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
All seats covered in this list have incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs. However, what makes this list unique is the different backgrounds of the nominated candidates.
Puja Amrohi, who got a ticket from Agra, is the daughter of former Congress Rajya Sabha MP Satya Bahin. Former Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MP from Hathras, Sarika Singh Baghel has been fielded from Etawah, her birthplace.
Hembabu Dhangar, who got a ticket from Hathras is a software engineer and his father Jagdish Prasad Dhangar is a founding member of the BSP. Suresh Chandra Gautam is another engineer to get a ticket.
Kamal Kant Upmanyu, who got a ticket from Mathura is a lawyer by profession. Another lawyer, Kuldeep Bhadauriya, got a ticket from Kanpur. He has been with the BSP for two years.
Two Brahmins feature in this list, unlike only one in the first list. Ram Niwas Sharma got a ticket from Fatehpur Sikri, a constituency where the party fielded a Brahmin candidate for the fourth consecutive time.
Rajesh Dwivedi got a ticket from Akbarpur. He is a businessman by profession and has been with the BSP for 20 years.
Satyendra Jain Sauli has been fielded from Firozabad with the intention of getting the votes of Jains and the trading community.
