The Central government has given preliminary approval for the development of two new townships in Uttarakhand.

The two projects that have been approved by the Centre include an industrial township in the Parag Farm area of Udham Singh Nagar and an integrated township in Doiwala on the outskirts of state's capital Dehradun, reports Times of India.

Earlier, the state government had submitted a proposal worth Rs 1,100 crore, seeking assistance from the central government for the development of these two townships, one in Kumaon and the other in Garhwal.

A delegation from the Centre is likely to conduct an on-site assessment of both locations in future, according to the ToI report.

The aim of the projects is to transform Parag Farm in Udham Singh Nagar into a major industrial hub, attracting an investment of Rs 10,000 crore and creating employment opportunities for local residents.

However, the projects are still in their early stages and progress will only be made following the assessment by the Central team.

The state government has additionally proposed the establishment of six more townships, including a film city on a 77-hectare plot near Naini Saini airport in Pithoragarh, a Doon twin city on 719-hectare land previously under the occupation of Arcadia tea garden in Dehradun, a cyber city in Sahaspur area of Dehradun, a wellness township in Chamoli district's Gauchar, a Haldwani twin city near Gaulapar, and a tourism township in Ramnagar.

Out of the 20 initially identified locations, 10 have been shortlisted for consideration.

The plans and concepts for eight of the projects have been finalised, while experts are still working on the remaining two projects.
