First-time MLA Bhajan Lal Sharma was appointed as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan on Tuesday (12 December) along with Vidhyadhar Nagar MLA Diya Kumari and Dudu MLA Prem Chand Bairwa as the two deputy CMs.

Bhajan Lal Sharma is a legislator from Sanganer and served as the state general secretary of the BJP in Rajasthan for four times. He won from the Sanganer seat in the Jaipur district in his maiden electoral contest.

The BJP had cut the ticket of the incumbent legislator Ashok Lahoti to give the ticket to the 56-year-old leader. Bhajan Lal Sharma defeated his Congress opponent Pushpendra Bhardwaj with more than 48,000 votes.

Bhajan Lal Sharma is a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan. He is considered close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP national president JP Nadda and Amit Shah. He is a Brahmin by caste.


He started his political career with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He also served as the president of the BJP's youth wing BJYM in the Bharatpur district.

In his early days, Sharma used to work as an accountant at the residence of contractor ARP Sharma in Bharatpur. Contractor ARP Sharma used to take contracts for the highway. During this time, he received a salary of only Rs 8,000 rupees.

After leaving the job of an accountant, Sharma started working on stone excavation for the Forest Department. However, Sharma's fate changed when he came in contact with the then Water Minister of the Vasundhara Raje government, the late Kiran Maheshwari. She got Sharma a job in her own department.
