YS Sharmila
Y S Sharmila, the president of Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Telangana Party (YSRTP), has revealed in an official meeting with party leaders that the Congress has offered her a Rajya Sabha seat from Karnataka and a position, likely general secretary, in the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
As reported by South First, this revelation came during a 10-minute meeting where Sharmila discussed her potential entry into the Congress and engagement in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.
In the meeting, attended by 60 to 70 party functionaries, Sharmila expressed her intentions to take a decision on the Rajya Sabha membership offer by 8 January.
While party leaders voiced disappointment over the party's potential merger with the Congress, they expressed contentment that Sharmila might carry forward the legacy of her late father, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, if appointed to the AICC.
Sharmila, the daughter of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has become a key political figure in the region.
As news of her potential entry into Congress circle, approximately 10 YSRCP MLAs and former MLAs are reportedly in touch with Congress leadership, indicating a potential shift in political affiliations.
The move also marks a significant development for the Congress, which has been striving to regain prominence in Andhra Pradesh after a decade in the political shadows.
