Indian Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) organisation DisInfo Lab has refuted the claims made by Washington Post (WaPo) in its report that the OSINT handle has been targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's critics in the United States.

The report cited sources to claim that DisInfo Lab has been "set up and is run by an Indian intelligence officer to research and discredit foreign critics of the Modi government".

While claiming that it aimed to uncover anti-India disinformation, the Disinfo Lab itself is running a covert influence operation, the report said citing sources.

"The Disinfo Lab has combined fact-based research with unsubstantiated claims to paint US government figures, researchers, humanitarian groups and Indian American rights activists as part of a conspiracy, purportedly led by global Islamic groups and billionaire George Soros, to undermine India," the report claimed.

The DisInfo Lab, in response to queries by WaPo, has stated that it is not associated with any government agency or personnel and that it was created by individuals from an anti-corruption political movement. The organisation claims to focus on exposing disinformation without political bias.

In a post on X, the DisnInfo lab described the Washington Post report as "barely disguised revenge piece" and gave multiple examples of how the 'activists' described in the WaPo piece "fold their shops, edit their past and disappear" after their expose.

"All the data references & links we established are easily available on internet, most from these fronts’ own websites. Surprisingly, WaPo’s hit piece didn’t talk about these FACTS at all. An ‘international’ news media is not interested in facts. Who could’ve thought!," the OSINT handle said.

The OSINT group further said it would respond to "each line" of the WaPo report "very shortly".
