Jaffna Cultural Centre
The Jaffna Cultural Centre was dedicated this morning (11 February), to the people of Sri Lanka. It is located next to the iconic Jaffna Public Library, which was destroyed by Sinhalese extremists in 1981.
Jaffna is the headquarters of the Tamil-majority Northern Province.
The occasion saw the participation of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) L Murugan.
"This state-of-the-art facility consists of multiple facilities such as a museum of two floors, an advanced theater style auditorium for more than 600 people, a 11-storeyed learning tower; a public square which could also act as an amphitheatre etc."
Thanking the Indian government for its priceless contribution, Jeevan Thiagarajah, the Governor of Sri Lanka's Northern Province, said that the Centre reflects the rich history and culture of the region and its connections to India.
