Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in the sensational gold smuggling case, has issued a clean chit to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his trusted bureaucrat M.Sivasankar and claimed that the case has been politicised to queer the pitch for the ruling CPM-led LDF government in the upcoming state elections, Malayalam Manorama reported.

Swapna Suresh was working as a consultant to one of the offices under the Kerala government's Information Technology (IT) ministry.

In an audio clip aired by TV channels in Kerala on Thursday (Jul 9), Swapna threatened to commit suicide if media does not stop indulging in ‘character assassination’ that has resulted in tarnishing her reputation.

“If any such thing happens to me, the media will be responsible for it” Swapan Suresh is heard saying in the audio clip .

Swapna Suresh also claimed that she is currently hiding as she fears for her life.

Confirming that she knew several ministers and officials in the current government, Swapna said that the association was professional in nature.

“I have contacted almost all ministers in the Left cabinet at various point of time in connection with different programmes. But you cannot do anything against them or the government as they are innocent. I have no role in the gold smuggling. “ she further said.

Swapna Suresh said that she had contacted a Customs officer to enquire about the delay in clearing a diplomatic baggage only at the behest of a diplomat in the UAE consulate to whom the consignment was addressed to.

"I have no role in the smuggling of gold through diplomatic baggage. A day after the baggage arrived, a diplomat in the consulate called me and inquired about the delay in its clearance. I then called Customs AC Ramamurthy and asked him about the delay. He told me that he would take up the matter," she is said.

"I used to work as the secretary to the consular. I have never spoken to anyone for my personal needs. I am no more an employee there. Still, I have helped them in their works until the last Sunday. One might wonder why I got involved in the matters of the consulate when I was a contract staff of Space Park. That is because my love for the UAE where I was born and brought up," she said.
