The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed MP Ramesh Bidhuri as the in-charge of Tonk district in the electoral state of Rajasthan. Notably, former deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot is the incumbent Tonk MLA and is likely to contest again from here.

Bidhuri was in controversy recently over his contentious remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali in Parliament. He was also issued a show cause notice by the party's national president JP Nadda.

Ramesh Bidhuri is an MP from South Delhi. After his appointment, Bidhuri was seen in action on Wednesday (27 September) during a coordination meeting in Jaipur with Rajasthan BJP president CP Joshi.

During this meeting, Ramesh Bidhuri discussed organisational activities and the schedule of Seva Saptah programs. Bidhuri has also shared pictures of this meeting on social media.

The influence of Gujjars is acknowledged in many districts of Rajasthan, and Tonk district is one of them. Before the assembly elections, BJP is strategising to align Gujjars with its party. It is believed that Gujjars are dissatisfied with Sachin Pilot not being appointed Chief Minister.

Therefore, the BJP aims to capitalise on this opportunity in the upcoming assembly elections by appointing Ramesh Bidhuri, who also belongs to the Gurjar community. It is assumed that the BJP intends to secure Gujjar votes through this move.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP did not perform well in Gujjar-dominated areas as the community extended unilateral support to Congress. It is said that without the support of Gujjars, capturing power in Rajasthan is quite challenging. Hence, the BJP is actively working on a significant strategy to counter Congress in Rajasthan.
