In an encounter with police in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday (5 October), two men wanted in a cow slaughter case sustained injuries, according to officials quoted by PTI.
Rohit Singh Sajwan, Senior Superintendent of Police, stated that the police received information that the two men, Dilshad and Imamuddin, would be traveling on a two-wheeler through the Inchauli-Khardauni road.
Upon intercepting the duo, the police claim that they opened fire. In response, the police fired back, injuring the two men in their legs. After their apprehension, the injured individuals were taken to a hospital.
As part of the operation, police confiscated two country-made pistols, cartridges, and the two-wheeler from their possession.
Notably, in the Rampur district yesterday, the police apprehended four alleged cow traffickers, accused of brutally tying a cow with the intent to slaughter it, after an encounter. This action was collaboratively carried out by the Tanda and Swar Kotwali police.
The police claim that the perpetrators opened fire upon seeing them. During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, a bullet struck above the left knee of Rakesh Kumar, the in-charge of Dadhial police outpost.
Meanwhile, in the retaliatory firing conducted in self-defense, two of the alleged cow traffickers, Faheem, son of Safi Ahmad, and Salim, son of Mahboob Shah, sustained injuries to their legs. They were subsequently treated at the Tanda Community Health Center (CHC).
Two other cow traffickers, Mannan, son of Islam, and Farman, son of Yusuf, managed to escape during the encounter. However, during the course of events, the station in-charge of Swar, Komal Singh, spotted two suspicious individuals in the jungles of Munshiganj along the Bajpur road.
Upon attempting to apprehend them, the two individuals initiated gunfire. In response, the police also fired, resulting in injuries to the legs of both suspects. They were taken into custody and brought to the Swar Community Health Center for medical treatment.
