In Moradabad, the wife of a Muslim man who had previously sought permission to convert to Hinduism has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him and six of his family members. The FIR includes charges of forgery and cruelty, among other allegations.

Aamir Ali, 22, had sent an application via registered post to the Moradabad district magistrate's office on 3 July, requesting permission to convert and also seeking security due to concerns about potential reprisals from his community.

His wife, Gulphansa, 19, alleged that Aamir had been involved in an affair with a Hindu woman before their marriage and that his family had concealed this information from her.

"The family members knew about Aamir's relationship with the woman, yet they approached my family with a marriage proposal, and now my life is ruined. His family members even tried to force me to have an abortion when I became pregnant, after which I started living with my parents," she said.

Amit Kumar, in charge of the Mughalpura police station in Moradabad, confirmed that an FIR had been registered against Aamir and six family members, including his parents, under sections 420 (cheating) and 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh stated that Aamir had indeed submitted an application to change his religion, but since his wife had also submitted an application expressing concerns about his actions, further investigation is required to determine the truth.

The ADM (Additional District Magistrate) and the SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) have been instructed to look into the matter.

Aamir, who works as a sales executive in a private firm in Ghaziabad, resides in the Prince Road area under the jurisdiction of Mughapura police station in Moradabad.

Gulphansa has also written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, seeking his intervention in the matter and appealing for his support and protection.
