‘Will Construct A Memorial And Provide Retrospective Pension To Families Of Victims If BJP Comes To Power In Tamil Nadu’, Says Annamalai On 25th Anniversary Of 1998 Coimbatore Blasts

At an event to pay homage to the victims of the 1998 Coimbatore blasts, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai said that the BJP would construct a memorial and provide a pension to families of the 58 people who lost their lives, if it comes to power in Tamil Nadu. The pension would be provided with a retrospective effect.

It was on this day (14 February), 25 years ago, that Coimbatore was shaken by blasts in multiple locations across the city. In a span of six hours, the city was witness to 12 blasts that killed 58 people and left more than 200 injured.

It is believed that LK Advani was one of the targets of the terrorists as a bomb exploded around 800 metres away from the podium, from which he was to address a rally.

Coming down heavily on the DMK, he said that the party had failed to ensure law and order in the state and the result of that is an increase in gun culture and murders in broad daylight.
