J&K's Srinagar is all set to host the third tourism working group meeting on 22 May.

Some would like to believe, as well as make others believe, that Kashmir is a matter of "international dispute," especially now as...

Context: The third G20 tourism working group meeting kicked off in Srinagar today.

  • The meeting aims to showcase India's cultural identity and tourism potential to the world, with a focus on sustainable, eco-friendly, and adventure tourism.

  • Its objectives also include bolstering economic growth, protecting cultural heritage, and ensuring sustainable development in the region.

  • This three-day event will witness higher participation of foreign delegates than the previous two meets in Gujarat and West Bengal.

  • With many international delegates in Kashmir, the 'pro-370' group thinks that its propaganda will get international attention.

  • Article 370 abrogation. Jammu and Kashmir is holding its first such international event since 2019 when it received the Union territory status.

    • The abrogation of Article 370 integrated the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh with the rest of India, removing all discriminatory laws earlier applied under the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

  • All the rights enshrined in the Constitution of India as well as the benefits of central laws enjoyed by other citizens of the country became available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

  • Agenda groups and vulture activists do not like the fact that Kashmir, as a result of that move, has been at its most stable in years.

  • This G20 event will showcase the peace and culture of the region, but not just that...

    • The meet is also about employment, infrastructure development, establishing coordination among departments, and holding the offices of the Government of India accountable to the people of Kashmir.

  • There are some who clearly would not want that since it doesn't fit their 'Muslims are victims' narrative.

  • If anything, the G20 is uplifting the psyche of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who were earlier under siege from within by Islamic takfiri terrorists. (Takfirism means calling the dissenters of "Azadi" not true Muslims or apostates, and hence liable to be killed.)

  • Bottom line: Disinformation by vulture activists is not going to cut it anymore, not about Jammu and Kashmir, in any case.

    • In this 'Naya Kashmir' environment, the propaganda won't fly.
