Dear Reader,
In March of this year took place the foundational ceremony of India’s first semiconductor fabrication facility (fab) in Dholera, Gujarat. The unit is currently under construction with a second fab unit already approved.
This underscores Dholera’s rise from a low-lying area, mostly submerged under seawater, to India’s first "semicon city".
Just like Hsinchu led the semiconductor revolution in Taiwan and reshaped the entire nation’s economy, a similar path is open for treading in Dholera too.
Building on its strength as an economic powerhouse, these developments have a lot to do with Gujarat shaping itself up as India's semiconductor hub. The state has seen three semiconductor units break ground this year.
What makes Gujarat a preferred bet? What makes it the economic powerhouse it is?
What is the Hsinchu template? Can Dholera be India's Hsinchu?
Are we approaching the "More than Moore" era in the semicon sector?
In the latest edition of Swarajya's weekend magazine titled, "Semicon Valley Of India", we look inside Gujarat's semiconductor revolution answering the above questions and more!
