Speaking during an election campaign in Charminar, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Uniform Civil Code Bill would be passed in Assam by February.

According to him, the bill would prohibit individuals from having more than one wife, and a man would need to legally divorce his first wife, if he intends to marry again.

He emphasised that this initiative has support even within the Muslim society.

Sarma accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress of practicing policies aimed at appeasing minorities, asserting that the nation is moving towards positive change, and there is no room for appeasement politics.

Additionally, Sarma discussed the transformation of madrassas in Assam into general schools, highlighting the shift towards providing education that aligns with children's career aspirations.

He also mentioned the upcoming inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in February and commented on All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Owaisi's support for Hamas, suggesting that they could go to Gaza and fight if they wish, but they prefer to stay in Hyderabad due to its perceived safety.

Sarma concluded by asserting that incidents like AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi openly threatening a police official, would be less likely under a BJP-led government in the state.
