The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections early today, 14 April.

Here are the highlights from the document titled 'Sankalp Patra' meaning a note of resolutions.


In other words, this is a summary of the fine print of the BJP manifesto.

1. Free ration scheme for poor to continue for another five years.

2. PM Awas Yojana (housing programme for poor) to be expanded to potentially cover all poor households.

3. Electricity bills of poor households to be brought to zero through PM Surya Ghar programme (the solar power scheme).

4. High-value employment opportunities for middle class by expanding the startup ecosystem to tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

5. 1 crore women from rural India became 'lakhpati didis'. Next target — three crore more.

6. Construction and maintenance of public toilets for women.

7. Special campaign to eradicate cervical cancer among women.

8. Implementing 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' which reserves one-third of seats for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

9. Stringent law to penalise and prevent paper leaks during exams for government jobs.

10. Senior citizens to be included in Ayushman Bharat programme.

11. No change in PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. The manifesto claims that the BJP government remains committed to providing annual assistance of Rs 6,000 to farmers.

12. Agri-satellite: The government will put in orbit a satellite specifically dedicated to providing data and inputs for agriculture.

13. Satellite imagery to be deployed for ensuring security and providing services to India's fishermen.

14. Modern amenities to be developed along national highways for the convenience of truck drivers.

15. The central BJP government will simplify rules for MSMEs (micro small and medium enterprises) and will also encourage state governments to do the same.

16. An ecosystem of public cyber security products to be developed for small and medium traders.

17. Every district to have a committee to ensure that benefits of programmes and schemes of public welfare are reaching all. This committee to have adequate representation of OBCs, SCs and STs.

18. Expansion of Ekalavya Model Residential Schools over and above the existing 740. This caters primarily to the Scheduled Tribes community.

19. All transgenders to be given government identity cards and eligible transgenders to be covered under Ayushman Bharat.

20. Numbers of foreign missions and diplomats to be increased.

21. Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centres to be established round the globe to provide education in yoga, ayurveda, Indian classical music, Indian languages, etc.

22. Indian government to work with foreign governments to revive and restore sites linked to Indian civilisation outside India's borders.

23. Ramayan Utsav to be celebrated globally to commemorate pran pratishtha of Ramlalla in Ayodhya. Special focus on south and south-east Asia.


25. National forensic mission to be set up to increase conviction rate.

26. India's footprint to be expanded along strategic locations in Indian Ocean region, in cooperation with friendly countries.

27. India's digital sovereignty to be protected. Organisations which are threat to the same to be dealt with harshly.

28. India's position as 'pharmacy of the world' to be strengthened.

29. India to be a global electronics manufacturing hub by 2030.

30. Semi-conductor and chip-manufacturing to be encouraged.

31. Feasibility studies to be conducted for bullet train corridors in north, south, and east India.

32. New airports, helipads and aerodromes to be constructed and air connectivity to be increased 'many times over'.

33. Water metros to be increased and expanded (currently only in Kochi, Kerala).

34. Laws to be amended for development of domestic shipping.

35. India to be self-sufficient in energy by 2047.

36. Nuclear energy network to be expanded through developing small modular reactors.

37. Private sector to be encouraged to develop Private Energy Storage Systems.

38. National smart grid to be established for efficient energy management.

39. Satellite townships to be developed around large cities. Mixed-use development and transit oriented development to be encouraged in these townships.

40. Government will work towards eliminating open landfills.

42. The Uniform Civil Code will be implemented.

45. E-courts to be established and judicial records to be digitised in 'mission mode'
