The Supreme Court on Thursday (19 May) directed the civil court in Varanasi to not proceed with proceedings in Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi case till the top court takes up matter on Friday at 3 pm.

The apex court's order came after the counsel for Hindu parties sought deferment.

A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and P S Narasimha acceded to the request by advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu party, but directed that the trial court should not hold proceedings or pass any order today.

Senior Counsel Huzefa Ahmadi appearing for Muslim party highlighted that proceedings before trial court are going on and an application has now been filed to demolish a wall near the Wazu Khana.

The matter will be heard tomorrow at 3 pm by the SC bench.
