Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday (13 April) approved a financial outlay of Rs 5,922 crore for the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) to develop governance capabilities of Rural Local Bodies.
The RGSA scheme will help more than 2.78 lakh Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) including traditional bodies across the country to develop governance capabilities to deliver on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusive local governance with focus on optimum utilisation of available resources, an official release said on Wednesday.
The total financial outlay of the scheme, which has now been extended till financial year 2025-26, is Rs 5,911 crore with the Central Share of Rs 3,700 crore and that of State Share of Rs 2,211 crore, the release said.
The scheme will strengthen Gram Sabhas to function as effective institutions with social inclusion of citizens particularly the vulnerable groups.
It will establish the institutional structure for capacity building of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) at the national, state and district level with adequate human resources and infrastructure, the release said.
