The murder of Shraddha Walkar in New Delhi, who was killed and chopped into 35 pieces by her live-in partner Aaftab Ameen Poonawala, is considered to be one of the most brutal murder cases of recent times.
Another gory murder incident has now come to light from Bihar.
Here, a man identified as Sheikh Shakeel or Shakeel Miyan in news reports, has allegedly chopped the limbs and other body parts of a woman named Neelam Devi, leading to her brutal death. He penetrated the deadly weapon into her eyes too, as per eyewitnesses.
The incident is from the Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
The Case
As per a report by Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, the accused Shakeel was not alone in this murder and was accompanied by his brother Mohammed Juddin. They both severed the woman’s body parts until she was almost dead.
The report further says on 3 December, Neelam Yadav went to the market with her son Kundan Yadav on a cycle. While returning, Kundan dropped his mother near Singhia bridge, and she started walking home from there. Kundan left for work.
A few minutes later, he received a call from his father Ashok Yadav who told him that someone had attacked his mother. He reached the spot and found that Neelam was bleeding. In pain, she said that Shakeel, who lives in Pirpainti Bazaar, attacked her with his friend, Kundan told the newspaper.
Ashok Yadav, while interacting with the media, said that usually she went to the market in an autorickshaw but that day, she was walking. That made it easy for Shakeel to attack her, he said. Shakeel lives in the hills nearby.
Ashok said that he had stopped Shakeel from coming to his house as he was not a good man. He said this was the only dispute his family had with Shakeel.
As per a report by Dainik Jagran, the accused chopped her ears and other body parts as well. She was first taken to a health centre from where she was transferred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur. Due to heavy blood loss, she died in the hospital.
Ashok Yadav told Dainik Bhaskar that he runs a grocery shop. In his absence, Neelam used to run the shop. Shakeel used to visit the shop and, if Neelam was present, stayed there without any reason. One day, he asked Shakeel not to come to his shop or his house.
The Jagran report quoted the in-charge of Pirpainti Police Station, Rajkumar, as saying that Shakeel and Neelam both shared the same exit from their fields and Shakeel used to visit their house. They probably were in a relationship, which was opposed by Ashok and his family
After Ashok told Shakeel to stay away, he tried contacting Neelam several times, but she resisted him. Angered by her behaviour, he killed her.
On the other hand, Senior Superintendent of Police of Bhagalpur, Babu Ram, told the media that it was a money-related issue. Neelam had borrowed a sum of money from Shakeel, but when he asked for his money to be returned, she failed. Both families had a little fight over this and Shakeel ended up killing the victim, he said.
India Today reported that the accused has been arrested.
