A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on the sudden increase in cardiac arrests since the Covid-19 pandemic will likely be available in the next two months, according to Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

Researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, are reviewing data related to heart attack fatalities, according to the minister, who was speaking at News18's Rising India Summit 2023.

Comorbidity and vaccination data is being studied by AIIMS to determine the reason.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare had earlier requested ICMR to provide evidence-based clarification on the basis of its planned studies about the sudden rise in cardiac arrests.

Further, the risk of a heart attack is more than six times higher for people suffering from flu after a week now than in the year before or after, a study revealed.

The research findings are particularly relevant to India, where the number of flu cases is on the rise in recent weeks, driven by the H3N2 virus.
