The government of Nepal has expressed concern over the open border with neighbouring countries, stating that it is causing security and law and order issues for the country.

In a letter to the Rashtriya Sarokar and Samanwaya Samiti, a committee of the upper house of Nepal Parliament responsible for national concerns and government coordination, the Home Ministry highlighted the challenges posed by the open borders with neighbouring countries.

It emphasised that these borders have become a threat to national security and have led to instances of lawlessness.

Nepal and India share a border that spans 1,850 kilometre, allowing unrestricted travel for citizens of both countries. On the other hand, Nepal's border with China, which stretches for approximately 1,400 kilometre, has regulations in place to control movement.

The letter from the home ministry did not provide any details regarding plans to regulate the border with India.
