The National Investigation Agency (NIA), an anti-terror probe agency, on Tuesday (19 December) was assigned by the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the murder case of Rajput Karni Sena chief, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
According to India Today, the responsibility of the investigation was handed over to the NIA due to the participation of prominent gangsters in the murder. The central investigative agency has officially filed a case regarding this issue.
The leader of Karni Sena was assassinated at his home in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on 5 December by a trio of gunmen. The crime was swiftly claimed by Rohit Godara, a gangster affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who took responsibility for the killing of Gogamedi.
Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji, the two gunmen, were apprehended on 9 December in Chandigarh. They disclosed to the authorities that the murder was orchestrated by Godara. Preliminary investigations also revealed that the gunmen maintained contact with Virendra Chahan and Danaram, close associates of Godara, while they were on the run.
A further arrest has been made in connection with the case, of a woman and her husband, who are alleged to have provided weapons and organized accommodation. The third individual involved in the shooting was killed during the gunfire.
The CCTV footage recorded the assassination of Gogamedi, revealing two individuals shooting the Karni Sena chief multiple times, while another man stood guard at the door.
Following the gunshot wounds, Gogamedi collapsed and was promptly rushed to the hospital. However, upon arrival, doctors pronounced him dead. Additionally, a member of Gogamedi's security team, who was wounded during the incident, subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
