The Indian Army and the security forces have killed a terrorist in an encounter near the Dassal Gujran forest area near Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official from the police, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO), was launched after noticing suspicious movement in the forest area of Dassal Gujran on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

In the ensuing operation, the terrorist fired upon the security forces, and in retaliation security forces returned fire killing one terrorist.

The official said that, "the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the forces, who retaliated".

The firing continued through the night, the official added.

It is noteworthy, that in the area close to Rajouri-Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, more than 17 people including seven civilians and 10 Army soldiers has been killed, following a string of terror attacks from Pakistan based terrorist hiding in the heavily forested region of Poonch Rajouri.

According to reports, it is believed that two Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist groups are operating in the Kandi forests of Rajouri, since 2021.

The fact that the two terrorist groups have been operating in the area since 2021, without being flushed out is a cause for concern.

The terrorist killed in today's encounter maybe from this group.
