DVAC Files FIR Against TN Teachers Recruitment Board Secretary And Family For Accumulating Disproportionate Assets Worth Rs 3.89 Crore

The Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board’s secretary, VC Rameswaramurugan, and his family members have been booked by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for allegedly acquiring and possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The FIR states that the family has acquired assets worth Rs 3.89 crore, which is 354.6 per cent higher than their known sources of income.
Yesterday (12 October), the DVAC conducted searches at the residence of Rameswaramurugan and his father-in-law in the Erode district.
Rameswaramurugan held various positions in the education department, including Joint Director of the T.N. School Education Department, Director of Elementary Education, Director of School Education, and Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training.
According to the DVAC, Rameswaramurugan and his family members owned properties worth Rs 1.98 crore as of 1 April 2012. These properties included vacant plots, punja lands, and house buildings in different locations.
The FIR stated that they had committed offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It named Rameswaramurugan, his wife A Akilandeeswari, his father VM Chinnapalanisamy, his mother C Mangaiyarkarasi, father-in-law B Arivudainambi and mother-in-law A Ananthi as the accused.
The DVAC's action comes at a time when the agency has been facing flak from the Madras High Court, which has taken up suo moto revision of the discharge and acquittal of ministers of both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
